What applicants are asking

Situations people describe in applicant forums such as canadavisa.com, in short, with what today's numbers say.

Parents on a visitor visa · approved, passport not handed in yet

It says approved on the portal. Is it safe to buy tickets yet?

Approval is only half of it: the visa still has to be put in your passport. Right now passports handed in at VFS take about 19 days to be sent back, and 9 in 10 are sent within 25 days. Blue Dart then takes about 1 day. A flight at least 28 days after the day you hand in leaves room for most cases; until your passport is dispatched, a ticket you can change is the safer buy.

Intern on a visitor visa · handed in at VFS Chandigarh today

My job starts in a few weeks. When will I get my passport back?

The passports Chandigarh is sending back now have been away about 15 days. Open VFS Chandigarh and watch your hand-in date in the chart: each bar shows how many passports from that day are back. Once the dates around yours fill up, yours is usually in the next batch.

Worker on a work permit · day 27, flight in three days

It has been 27 days and nothing has moved. Is something wrong?

Only about 1 in 10 passports take longer than 25 days, so at 27 days you are in the slow group. It usually means your file needed more checking at the visa office, not that the passport is lost. Look on your centre's page: if your hand-in date is already “mostly back” and yours isn't, use IRCC's web form and give your travel date. VFS can't speed up the visa office.

Applicant at VFS Ahmedabad · no update yet

Is anyone who handed in on my date getting their passport?

That is what this site shows. Ahmedabad's passports going out now have waited about 17 days. Passports leave in batches on weekdays, most on Wednesdays and Mondays; the biggest day lately sent 2,650 passports at once (21 Sept). A few quiet days followed by a big batch is normal, so a slow week doesn't mean your date was skipped.

Super visa applicant · Jalandhar, offered the premium lounge

VFS says the premium lounge is the faster route. Is it?

We can't tell which passports came through the lounge, so we can't measure it. What we can say: the long part of the wait happens at the visa office after VFS hands your passport over, and about 1 in 10 passports come back within 11 days across all centres, lounge or not.

PR applicant · day 22, landing document expiring soon

Will my passport be back before my COPR expires?

At 22 days you are past the typical 19 days but most passports are still sent within 25 days. If your deadline is close, don't wait for the batch: write to IRCC through its web form with the expiry date. Our numbers show how unusual your wait is, which helps you decide when to ask.

Visitor · VFS tracking says dispatched

My passport has been dispatched. When will it reach me?

Soon. Over the last month Blue Dart delivered 54% of these passports the same or the next day, and 9 in 10 within 3 days, across 17,821 deliveries. If yours hasn't come after that, call Blue Dart with your tracking number.

How the journey works

From hand-in to your door typically takes about 20 days right now; most passports arrive within 28 days.

  1. 1

IRCC approves and asks for your passport · IRCC's own estimate

You keep your passport while IRCC decides online. When it approves, it emails a passport request. IRCC publishes its processing times for this part; we start where it stops.

  2. 2

You hand it in at a VFS centre · the date in your tracking ID

At any of the ten VFS Canada centres in India, in person or by VFS's courier pickup. Your tracking ID starts with this date: 20260825 in 20260825INCDPKT84800.

  3. 3

The visa office puts the visa in and sends it back to VFS · about 19 days

This is the long wait, and the one nobody else publishes. For passports handed in between 12 Aug and 11 Sept (16,589 of them), 1 in 10 were sent back within 11 days, half within 19 days and 9 in 10 within 25 days.

  4. 4

VFS sends it out by Blue Dart · weekdays, mostly Wednesdays

Passports leave in batches, on weekdays only. This is the moment VFS tracking changes and the moment our numbers count.

  5. 5

Blue Dart delivers it to you · about 1 day

54% arrive the same or the next day, 9 in 10 within 3 days. If you chose to collect in person, you pick it up at the centre instead.

What the numbers don't tell you

Only couriered passports. We count passports Blue Dart carries, roughly a third of the total. If you collect in person, your passport is not in our numbers, though it is stamped by the same visa office.

Not your file. We read dates, not names. We can see that a passport is slower than others from the same day, never why. Your IRCC account is the only place that knows.

No visa type. Visitor visas, study and work permits and PR passports carry the same kind of tracking ID, so every figure here covers them together.

Steps, not a slope. Because passports leave in batches, the “mostly back” date can sit still for days and then jump a week. Read the 7-day progress, not a single day. Jalandhar sends the most passports, so its numbers settle first.

Canada Passport Stamping Time from India — Real-Time Tracker

Your Canadian visa is approved and IRCC has asked for your passport. You hand it in at VFS, and then the wait begins: VFS tracking says little more than “received” until the passport is on its way back, and nobody publishes how long the stamping takes. People ask the same question in forums and WhatsApp groups every day: how many days is it taking now, and has anyone who handed in on my date got their passport back?

VisaTrackr answers it from real passports. When the visa office has put the visa in, VFS sends the passport back by Blue Dart. We read Blue Dart's public tracking for the Canada passports VFS India sends, every morning, and count for each hand-in date how many are back and when they left. That shows which hand-in dates are mostly back, how long the passports going out now have waited, and whether it is getting faster.

How to check your passport stamping status

Your VFS tracking ID starts with the day you handed in your passport: 20260825 in 20260825INCDPKT84800, with the centre's letters after IN (CD for Chandigarh, JU for Jalandhar). Pick your centre above and find that date in the chart: you'll see how many passports from your day are back and when the main batch left. If your date is older than the “mostly back” date and yours hasn't come, it is one of the slower ones, which happens.

Current Canada passport stamping times in India (2026)

Across all ten VFS centres, passports are taking about 16 days to come back right now. Right now VFS New Delhi is the quickest (about 12 days) and VFS Mumbai the slowest (about 22 days). Passports go back in batches rather than one by one, so the wait moves in steps: a quiet week, then a day when most of a week's hand-ins leave together. About one in ten come back much faster than the rest.

Which part of the wait this is

For Canada, IRCC decides first, online, while you keep your passport; IRCC publishes its own estimate for that step. Only after approval does it ask for the passport. This site measures what comes next: from handing the passport in at VFS to it being sent back stamped. It covers visitor visas, study and work permits and PR alike, since the tracking ID doesn't say which.
